History
of... MUSTANG NORTH MIDDLE
SCHOOL
Mustang North Middle School first opened its doors in the fall of 1984 with 377 students housed in 22 classrooms. MNMS became the second and smallest of two middle schools in the Mustang Public School system. David Steiner was named the first principal of the new school, a position he filled until the fall of 1990, when he became the first principal of Mustang Trails Elementary School and Ralph Smith became principal of MNMS. In 1992, an addition was completed to the original MNMS building which expanded the media center and cafeteria, as well as adding 17 additional classrooms. By the fall of 2000, MNMS had added three portable classroom buildings to accommodate a student population of 762 and was sharing its parking lot with Mustang’s newest elementary school, Mustang Creek Elementary School, which had been constructed six years earlier.
MNMS is surrounded by attractive suburban housing areas. Most recently, progressive business development has increased along the thoroughfares located near the school. Further development is anticipated with the completion of the latest segment of the new turnpike, connecting the west side of Oklahoma City with the north side. New industry being sited in the area translates into new jobs, families, and school age children. With this growth, comes pressure to expand our school in anticipation of the influx of an expected rising enrollment.
Today, Mustang North Middle
School is one of the safest and most progressive middle schools in Oklahoma. A
tribute to Mustang North are the parents and students who return year after year
expressing the importance of the memories and friendships made here.
